From April 7-10 Messe Frankfurt will host Automechanika Istanbul 2016, in Istanbul, Turkey at the TUYAP Fair, Convention and Congress Center. The show is expected to attract over 45,000 attendees, with 1,500+ exhibitors from all over the world. With the world’s 16th largest economy, Turkey has positioned itself as a leading country for automotive and aftermarket innovation. The city of Istanbul is enhanced by its prime location between Europe and Asia, allowing business ideas to flow between the markets of countries in both continents. Messe Frankfurt organizers recognize the significant role Turkey plays in manufacturing, production, trade, and investment. They have worked to ensure that this year’s Automechanika event showcases the best that Turkey has to offer. While some visitors may have attended Istanbul based trade shows in the past, many will be new this region. Temel Gaskets would like to provide you with a few tips to make your potential visit to Automechanika Istanbul productive and enjoyable.

1.Traveling Around Istanbul

The event location, TUYAP Fair Convention and Congress Center, is a 25 minute drive from Atatürk International Airport and 45 minutes outside of city center. Automechanika will offer a complimentary shuttle service to and from the event site. Departure and return locations for the shuttle service include Atatürk International Airport,  Bakırköy Sea Bus Port, and Taksim Atatürk Cultural Center. Another option is to use the taxis that are readily available from the airport and within the city. Visitors can also ride public transportation via the Metrobus, which stops at the TUYAP station next to the Convention Center. Workday traffic is usually heavy, so renting a car is not advised for travelers who are unfamiliar with navigating the city.

2. Preparation for Mediterranean Climate

Istanbul generally has a moderate spring climate. The average temperature for April is about 12°C. High and low temperatures range about 5° above and below the median temperature. Since Istanbul is easy to travel around by foot, it is important to pack clothes that will provide maximum comfort for being outside. It is a good idea to dress in layers and remain aware of the possibility for rain. April is right between Istanbul’s rainy season and dry season, making the chance of rainfall quite unpredictable. You can expect at least 8 hours of daylight and sunshine in early April, so an outdoor lunch or breakfast would be ideal to enjoy the daylight

Although most Turkish business people speak English or German, it is always good to check if an interpreter will be needed. Keep in mind that Turkish negotiations make take longer than usual, so patience is key. Read business cards immediately after receiving them, as it is a sign of sincere interest and give one of yours in return. Many companies in Turkey are family owned and prefer taking time to know the people they will be doing business with. Make sure to leave room for compromise and present decisions in a respectful manner that indicates fondness for the company you are negotiating with.

Hopefully during your visit, you will have some spare time to explore the city of Istanbul. Popular visitor attractions include the Grand Bazaar, a shopping center with 4,000+ shops, and Topkapi Palace, of the former Ottoman Empire. For more historical and artistic ventures, visitors may enjoy  Byzantine Artifacts or Istanbul Modern Museum. Make sure to sample Turkish cuisine and visit one of the elaborate fresh food markets.
