Continuing to expand its range of products, Temel now includes valve body separator plates in its offerings. The critical functionality of this part makes Temel a perfect candidate to bring together the years of engineering expertise with the design, development and manufacturing activities necessary in order to create the right product.     In an automatic transmission, the valve body is the controlling mechanism for the flow of fluids. Inside the valve body, the primary moving parts are metal balls which regulate fluid flow by functioning as check valves. The combination of the orifice size and the arrangement of the seat with the metal balls determine the flow rate and direction, respectively. There are examples of valve body designs where the metal balls are also supported by springs as a way to further control the flow.   If functioning properly, all of these pieces ensure the correct timing of the transmission shift. Any variation may result in lower performance. The hydraulic fluid activates the necessary clutch pack or servo units based on the selected gear. Computerized transmission units utilize electrical solenoids attached to the valve body to maintain the flow direction and placement of the hydraulic fluid within the compartments.   As it’s mostly the case, in applications where there is fluid or gas which needs to be contained or regulated, there is the need for sealing. Temel continues to reach out to the incoming generations of the automotive industry. Just this last Saturday, Temel was one of the sponsors to the fifth annual Formula SAE Southern Invitation at the Kennesaw University.   There, teams from several universities who are a part of the Formula SAE program, raced their cars, built with hard work from multiple engineering disciplines. Each car competed in categories such as acceleration, handling and more. This is the second year Temel had a table at the event.   Make no mistake, these cars are way too fast to not be taken seriously and way too advanced, up there with their big brothers from the real Formula racing teams. Gaskets are part of an engine that most vehicle owners do not anticipate having to replace. Of course, the need for gasket replacement depends on how long the vehicle has been in use and its past history. The purpose of a gasket is to seal engine components and prevent leaks. Engine leaks are one of the worst problems a vehicle can have, which reinforces the importance of functional gaskets.   Typically, a gasket will not begin malfunctioning until a vehicle has reached at least 60,000 miles. In order to tell when a gasket needs to be replaced, there are a few warning signs. Coolant leaks are a common sign that a gasket may need replacing, but there are other causes for coolant leaks like, a leaky radiator cap, a hole in the radiator, or a water pump leak. This type of leak would usually require the replacement of the manifold gaskets that are used to attach the intake manifold cover to the top of the engine. While replacing manifold gaskets can be temporarily delayed, a failing head gasket must be addressed immediately. Located in the combustion chamber, the head gasket is positioned between the cylinder head and engine block, allowing it to seal the cylinders and provide the most possible compression to prevent coolant or engine oil from leaking into the cylinders. The areas between the cylinders are the weakest point in an engine. Head gasket repairs and replacement can be expensive, and in some cases it require a complete engine overhaul.
