SAE Atlanta was at A World in Motion Jet Toy Competition, once again this year.
Organized by SAE International, Jet Toy Competition brings together students from local schools to provide them a friendly competition platform and challenge their creative minds to come up with the best preforming Jet Toy cars. Competing in three categories, Jet Toys are expected to reach the longest distance, achieve the longest travel time and be the most accurate in stopping right on target. You may find more information about the competition rules and Jet Toy specs on SAE’s Jet Toy page. Also, if you want to start your own competition, you may find even more details here on this page.
The event’s major sponsor was KIA as previous years. In fact, in addition to being the organizing company, KIA went even further and made a generous donation of $250,000 to SAE International.
The event took place at the Georgia International Convention center and attended by nearly 350 students. It was surely an energetic crowd.
Volunteer judges supervised the 15 tracks with two to three teams per track. In the first part of the day, the teams tested their vehicles. They were allowed to have a custom designed vehicle specific for each category. The Jet Toys were propelled by a balloon and all other parts provided to the teams were identical. It was a competition of figuring out the best way to put together those parts and fine tuning the Jet Toys for top performance.
The second part of the morning kicked off with the competitions first category, distance. It was then followed by time and lastly accuracy.
It was a fun and friendly rivalry between the schools and the schools.
The winners were announced at the end of the event, with the top place winners getting the chance to compete in Detroit at the National Jet Toy Competition.
